This course is designed to provide an understanding of the basic functions<br />

A survey of business including forms of business organization, finance,<br />
personnel problems, marketing, managerial aids, business-government<br />
relations; and business terms and concepts.<br />

Business Statistics<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Prerequisite: Mathematics 125 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />
Collection, tabulation and presentation of data; averages and index numbers,<br />
economic trends and cycles, correlation, and the application of these methods<br />
to the solution of practical business problems.<br />
UC limit: Maximum one course from Mathematics 225 and Business 15.<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
Credit allowed for only one of Business 38 or Accounting 31. Problems in<br />
ordinary business situations and on civil service examinations. Arithmetic<br />
fundamentals, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of<br />
whole numbers and fractions are reviewed. Practical problems include<br />
interest, cash and trade discount, mark-up and mark— down, payrolls, and<br />
percentage.<br />

Applying the principles of accounting, banking, finance, office methods,<br />
management, and production, to one’s personal affairs. Family budgeting,<br />
consumer credit, home ownership, life and property insurance, investments<br />
and savings plans, social security and retirement plans.<br />

Covers the duties of a credit manager in various business establishments.<br />

International Trade<br />

Prerequisite: Business 1 with a satisfactory grade or better.<br />
This class focuses on the fundamentals of International trade and<br />
globalization; the pattern and factors that have contributed to the spread of<br />
globalization through theoretical explanations; government policies and<br />
regional trade alliances that influence globalization. The role of global capital<br />
markets, foreign exchange markets, and payment structures are also<br />
examined.<br />

Exporting Procedures<br />

Prerequisite: International Business 1 with a satisfactory grade or better.<br />
Identifies, defines, and explains that which is required by the United States<br />
regulatory agencies to export from the United States. Emphasis will be placed<br />
on how to determine if a commodity is acceptable for export and how to<br />
prepare the proper documentation required by the country of destination.<br />
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS 4<br />
Importing Procedures I<br />
3 UNITS - (A)<br />
Prerequisite: International Business 1 with a satisfactory grade or better.<br />
Identifies, defines, and explains the United States regulatory agency<br />
requirements to import to the United States. Emphasis will be placed on<br />
how to determine what duties commodities might be subject to and how to<br />
prepare and present to the Bureau of Customs the shipment and its<br />
documents.<br />
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS 5<br />
Payment Instruments and Procedures I<br />
3 UNITS - (A)<br />
Prerequisite: Business 1 and/or International Business 1 with satisfactory<br />
grades or better.<br />
This course explains how to arrange and receive payment for merchandise<br />
shipped from one country to another. Topics covered include how to prepare<br />
and fill out documents. Also included is information regarding credit and<br />
political risk insurance.<br />
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS 6<br />
International Marketing I<br />
3 UNITS - (A)<br />
Open to all students.<br />
Emphasizes how to get foreign customers for American made products, how<br />
to identify prospective customers, how to make contact and how to sell the<br />
product. Variables include: culture, trade customs, politics, climate, wealth,<br />
business and government structures and international law.
