Coaching Team Sports<br />

A comprehensive study of the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspect<br />

of coaching team sports. Special emphasis is placed on the history,<br />

philosophy, professional qualifications, career opportunities, and current<br />

trends and curriculum development in coaching. The theory and practice of<br />

team sports included in physical education and recreational programs. Basic<br />

skills, rules, regulations, and organization of activities are presented.<br />

The theory and practice of individual sports included in physical education<br />

and recreation. The student’s skill in each sport is assessed; Basic skills,<br />

rules, regulations, and organization, of the activities are presented. Activities<br />

include Archery, Badminton, Handball, Golf, Tennis.<br />

Games & Rhythms/Elementary School I<br />

A study of the physical, mental, emotional, and social effects of games and<br />

rhythms. Special emphasis is placed on the history, philosophy, professional<br />

Theory and Practice of Olympic Sport Judo<br />

3 UNITS - (RPT 3) (UC:CSU)<br />

In each sport or activity, special attention is paid to techniques, strategy,<br />

etiquette, terminology, history, and rules. Individual courses may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

This course offers an in depth study of folk dance, its history, characteristics,<br />

and music for students interested in teaching.<br />

Allows students to pursue Directed Study on a contract basis under the<br />

Courses Only - No Degree/Certificate<br />

The physical sciences, including geography, geology, and physical<br />

science, are related to environmental management, teaching, urban<br />

planning, geology and construction careers. These courses provide an<br />

opportunity to learn more about our environment, the earth and the forces<br />

that shape it.<br />

NOTE: Not every class is offered each semester. Refer to the current class<br />

schedule for current class offerings.<br />

PREREQUISITES: Specified prerequisites must be completed with a<br />

satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

PHYSICAL SCIENCE<br />

UC Limit: no credit allowed if taken after a college course in <strong>As</strong>tronomy,<br />

Chemistry, Geology or Physics.<br />

Physical Science<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent or concurrent enrollment in Learning<br />

Skills 1 and/or 7.<br />

Open to all students. An integrated course for non-science majors developing<br />

fundamental concepts of Physics and Chemistry. Topics include principles<br />

of motion and energy (Physics) and structure and properties of matter<br />

(Chemistry).<br />

Physical Science Laboratory<br />

1 UNIT – (UC:CSU)<br />

Co-requisite: Physical Science 1.<br />

Advisory: English 21<br />

This course provides the liberal arts student with laboratory experience which<br />

supplements the instruction given in Physical Science. Taken with or after<br />

Physical Science 1, it completes the transfer and graduation requirement for<br />

a Natural Science course with laboratory.
