Advisory: Photography 28 and English 28/31 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Concept, design and specialization subject lighting for commercial advertising<br />

is emphasized. Studio electronic flash and accessories are utilized. Color 4<br />

x 5 transparencies and prints, digital prints, and black and white enlarging is<br />

incorporated in assignments.<br />

Estimated material cost is approximately $300-$400.. Owning camera<br />

equipment is recommended, but not essential.<br />

ADVANCED COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

Prerequisite: Photography 3 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Advisory: Art 201 Recommended concurrent enrollment in Photo 28 or 33.<br />

Advisory: English 28 or equivalent<br />

Lecture 2 hours, Laboratory 3 hours<br />

Professional lighting techniques for commercial subjects is stressed in<br />

conjunction with specialized assignments related to current commercial<br />

requirements and practices including publication illustration.<br />

EXPLORING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

3 UNITS<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

A practical course in the uses and applications of professional digital cameras.<br />

Camera controls and elements of composition will be stressed. Digital<br />

cameras may be provided by the department for student use. Students may<br />

use their own cameras to supplement assignments. Owning a digital camera<br />

is not a requirement.<br />

PHOTOGRAPHY 10<br />

Beginning Photography<br />

3 UNITS - (UC: CSU)<br />

Advisory: Concurrent enrollment in Photography 28 and English 28/31 or<br />

equivalent.<br />

Lecture 2 hours, Laboratory 3 hours<br />

Basic principles of photography from the mechanical creation of the image<br />

with camera and film to enlarging the photograph for display, while applying<br />

the guidelines of composition, communication and self-expression. 35 mm<br />

single lens camera required. Automatic cameras are OK, but they must<br />

have manual shutter speed and lens opening capability. An approximate<br />

supply cost is $125. You must attend the first lecture meeting, or be replaced<br />

by students wishing to add. The first scheduled class is the first lecture<br />

meeting. Do not attend the first lab meeting. Labs will meet only after<br />

announced in lecture class.<br />

Fundamentals of Portraiture<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Photography 1 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Advisory: Concurrent enrollment in Photography 28.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.<br />

This course offers a study of modern photographic lightings in portraiture,<br />

using professional cameras and lighting equipment. Photographic films,<br />

exposure factors, developing techniques, and print display are presented.<br />

Lightings for groups, environmental portraiture and posing techniques are<br />

studied as well.<br />

PHOTOGRAPHY 17<br />

Introduction to Color Photography<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Photography 10 or 20 or equivalent with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.<br />

Students enrolled in this class will learn about color photography from its<br />

beginning to the present with new materials on the present market. Light<br />

and its characteristics are studied in order to better understand perception<br />

and the individual’s interpretation of color. Estimated cost is $100.<br />

PHOTOGRAPHY 20<br />

Beginning Photojournalism<br />

4 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Advisory: Concurrent enrollment in Photography 28 and English 28/31 with<br />

a satisfactory grade.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 6 hours to be arranged.<br />

Photography for those interested in becoming photographers for publications<br />

(magazines, wire services, newspapers, in-plant publications). Provides<br />

instruction, practice and application with cameras, shooting, procedures, and<br />

darkroom processing and photojournalism methods.<br />

Creative Photo-<strong>Vision</strong><br />

3 UNITS – (RPT 2) (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Photography 1 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Advisory: Photography 28.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.<br />

Designed as a workshop in sensitive seeing, this course offers photography<br />

students some of the avenues of self-expression through nontraditional<br />

photographic techniques including non-silver processes, collage, handcoloring,<br />

serial imagery and other alternative processes.<br />

Laboratory Processes<br />

1 UNIT – (RPT 3) (A)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Laboratory 3 hours.<br />

This course is designed for the photography student who wishes to increase<br />

laboratory skills, relative to concurrent photography classes, through extended<br />

contact with equipment and faculty. Students will not be permitted to use any<br />

of the photo lab facilities if they drop or are excluded from the main photo<br />

lecture section.<br />

Advanced Laboratory Processes<br />

1 UNIT – (RPT 3) (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Photography 28 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Laboratory 3 hours.<br />

This course will concentrate on lab instruction designed to familiarize students<br />

with safety factors and the technology of film and paper processes. Students<br />

will not be permitted to use any of the photo lab facilities if they drop or are<br />

excluded from the main photo lecture section.
