The Library department is designed to help students succeed in their<br />

college classes. The courses give students confidence in doing research<br />

using standard library resources as well as the Internet.<br />

PREREQUISITES: Specified prerequisites must be completed with a<br />

satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Library Research Methods<br />

1 UNIT – (UC:CSU)<br />

Individualized instruction in the use of the library, its resources, and the rudiments<br />

of research. Credit/No Credit class.<br />

LIBRARY SCIENCE 102<br />

Internet Research Methods<br />

1 UNIT – (CSU)<br />

Recommended: Knowledge of Windows; Basic keyboarding skills.<br />

Locate and evaluate information resources on the Internet. Learn principles of<br />

information access, search strategies, evaluation criteria and processes. Issues<br />

regarding intellectual property, censorship, and online publishing will be<br />

covered.<br />

Mathematics<br />

Mathematicians and their models put man and machines in space, make<br />

millionaires out of investors, and even propel video gaming technology<br />

to new levels of excitement. Mathematicians are active in just about<br />

every professional area you can think of and are typically in-demand<br />

and high earners. Here are just a few of the places you’ll find them:<br />

Computer Animation; Virtual Environments; Digital Special Effects in<br />

Movies; Space Research; Mathematical Evolution and Modeling; Engineering;<br />

Software Development & Computer Technology; Electronics;<br />

Business (Financial Models, Trend Analysis, etc); Military & Security<br />

Occupations; Oil Exploration; and Teaching.<br />

The <strong>LACC</strong> Mathematics Department offers from Pre-Algebra to Advanced<br />

Calculus and Differential Equations. Our students successfully transfer<br />

to prestigious university programs including Cal State Universities, UCLA,<br />

UC Berkley and other UCs, USC and CalTech to name a few. And,<br />

<strong>LACC</strong>’s math team has consistently placed in the top 5 out of nearly 200<br />

colleges in the National American Mathematics <strong>As</strong>sociation of Two Year<br />

Colleges Competition in recent years.<br />

Placement Information<br />

High school courses are not accepted as equivalent to college courses.<br />

Every new incoming student will be required to take the math assessment<br />

unless he/she has satisfied the prerequisite by a college level<br />

course or a comparable assessment process from another college (must<br />

not be based on high school transcripts).<br />
