Motion Picture Soundstage Production Practicum<br />

3 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisite: One of the following - Cinema 5 or 6 or 7 or 9 or 10 or 35<br />

with satisfactory grades or better.<br />

Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 4 hours<br />

Designed for students to gain practical experience in a specific area of<br />

motion picture soundstage production in order to develop the necessary<br />

skills needed in that field of the industry. Included skills are screenwriting,<br />

directing, production management, lighting, cinematography, sound recording<br />

and editing.<br />

Non-linear Editing with Final Cut Pro<br />

3 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Cinema 32 with satisfactory grades or better.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />

Advanced film students are introduced to Final Cut Pro non-linear software<br />

and are given lectures of film-to video and other post-production<br />

techniques.<br />

Modern Picture Stage Grip<br />

3 UNITS - (A)<br />

Open to all students.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />

In this hands-on course, students will learn basic grip skills and operate<br />

equipment and tools used on location and the motion picture stage.<br />

with production managers, first assistant directors, production designers,<br />

and script supervisors, with a focus on basic safety issues in each department.<br />

Intermediate course to the skills needed to obtain and keep a position in<br />

the motion picture or television industries. Skills taught include working<br />

on a more advanced level with production managers, first assistant directors,<br />

production designers, script supervisors, and other keys with a continuing<br />

focus on safety issues in each department.<br />

production designers, script supervisors, and other keys with a special<br />

focus on preparing for industry “safety passports.”<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

Intermediate course of skills needed to succeed at any entry level position<br />

in the motion picture or television industries. This class features<br />

beginning to advanced office and organizational skills needed to maintain<br />

an entry level position in the development or production management<br />

side of the business.<br />

CINEMA 921 Cooperative Education— 2 UNITS<br />

CINEMA 931 Cooperative Education— 3 UNITS<br />

Prerequisite: Cinema 2 with a satisfactory grade or better.<br />

Students receive credit for approved internships with an employer in the<br />

field of Motion Picture Production, under the direction of the Cooperative<br />

Education director. The worksite must be approved by the Department<br />

Chair.<br />

Introduction to Television<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

A required basic course for all first semester Television majors.<br />

Open to all students.<br />

Lecture 3 hours.<br />

A study of what’s on Television and why, including the history of Radio<br />

and Television Broadcasting. Also covers costs, ratings, profits, the FCC<br />

rules, cable and pay Television.<br />

Recommended elective for Journalism, Theatre and Public Relations.<br />

TELEVISION 4<br />

Camera, Lighting and<br />

Sound for Television and Cinema<br />

3 UNITS – (A)<br />

A required basic course for all first semester Television majors.<br />

Open to all students.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Discussion 1 hour.<br />

An introduction to Camera, Lighting and Sound for video and film in<br />

studio and on location<br />

Studio and Remote Production<br />

3 UNITS - (RPT 1) (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Television 46 with a satisfactory grade or better.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 5 hours.<br />

Various camera set ups; lighting, editing procedures, mike placement and<br />

overall operation of such equipment operation. Television news studio<br />

and field production.<br />
