CHILD DEVELOPMENT SITE SUPERVISOR<br />

Certificate 4<br />

This certificate is the highest certificate offered by the Child Development<br />

program. Recipients of this certificate are qualified to supervise an entire<br />

program at one site. Some responsibilities of site supervisors include the<br />

following: use of positive leadership skills to implement the sites’ philosophy,<br />

adherence to state and federal licensing requirements, budget implementation,<br />

enforcement of enrollment/registration policies and procedures, hire, inspire<br />

and supervise all staff, foster positive communication links between home,<br />

school and community, maintain appropriate health, safety and nutrition standards,<br />

supervision of curriculum and schedule development. Students wishing<br />

to obtain the California Child Development Permit: Site Supervisor level,<br />

must meet experience requirements, obtain an <strong>As</strong>sociate in Arts degree, and<br />

meet the requirements listed below.<br />

The following certificates are designed for students interested in specializing<br />

in a particular field of study such as: infant/toddlers, school-age, or children<br />

with special needs. Note: English 21/73 or 28/31 are co-requisites for most<br />

courses and may be satisfied through placement on the College <strong>As</strong>sessment.<br />

INFANT & TODDLER STUDIES<br />

The Infant & Toddler Studies skill certificate qualifies the student for the most<br />

entry-level teacher position within private infant/toddler programs. Infant/Toddler<br />

teachers are responsible for supervising the care and development of<br />

children birth through 2 ½ years old. Some responsibilities may include: developing<br />

and sustaining caring, loving, respectful relationships, designing<br />

developmentally age-appropriate curriculum, organizing parent conferences<br />

and establishing clear daily communications with parents and other caregivers.<br />

within school-age programs. School-age program teachers work with children<br />

from kindergarten through middle school, in before and/or after school<br />

programs. Some responsibilities might be to design and implement developmentally<br />

age-appropriate activities that are fun exciting and challenging to a<br />

variety of age groups. Note: English 28 or equivalent is required in order to<br />

receive any <strong>LACC</strong> Child Development certificate.<br />
