Computer Keyboarding I<br />

3 UNITS - (A)<br />

Advisory: Eligibility for ESL Level 6B and 6C.<br />

Mastery of the keyboard (letters, numbers, and symbols) by touch. Minimum<br />

speed at end of course of 30 wpm accurately; formatting of mailable letters,<br />

tables, reports, and memos using Microsoft Word.<br />

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS & OFFICE TECHNOLOGIES 2<br />

Computer Keyboarding II<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Computer Keyboarding I or equivalent.<br />

Mastery of the keyboard (letters, numbers, and symbols) by touch. Minimum<br />

speed at end of course of 40 wpm accurately; formatting of mailable<br />

advanced letters, tables, reports, memos, and desktop published documents<br />

using Microsoft Word.<br />

Computer Keyboarding III<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Prerequisites: Completion of CAOT 2 and CAOT 84 or a training course in<br />

Microsoft Word. (Students who do not meet these prerequisites should<br />

enroll in either CAOT 2 or CAOT 9 and CAOT 84, Microsoft Word.)<br />

Speed and accuracy development in business document production<br />

using the advanced feature of MS Word. Includes composing at the<br />

keyboard and timed production. Minimum speed at end of course of<br />

50wpm.<br />

Develops proficiency in operating transcribing machines, listening skills,<br />

transcription of mailable letters, memoranda, and manuscripts from<br />

machine dictation techniques and English usage.<br />

Keyboarding Improvement<br />

1 UNIT - (RPT 2) (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Ability to type 20 wpm.<br />

Improves keyboarding procedures through continued emphasis on correct<br />

keyboarding techniques. Uses a computer to develop speed and accuracy<br />

through timed writings and corrective drills. May be taken concurrently<br />

with CAOT 1, 2 or 3. May be repeated twice.<br />

Microcomputer Office Applications: PowerPoint<br />

2 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisite: CAOT 82.<br />

This course uses application software to develop proficiency in the operation<br />

of Microsoft PowerPoint. It develops the skill to create, modify,<br />

and retrieve various presentations, the skill to integrate PowerPoint with<br />

other programs, and the skill to use visuals in the presentation.<br />

Medical Office Procedures<br />

5 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisites: CAOT 2 or 31 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Advisory: CAOT 44.<br />

This course develops proficiency in typing medical documents, case histories,<br />

medical reports, history and physicals,. Additionally, students learn about<br />

medical ethics and sensitivity training for the medical office, privacy laws,<br />

telephone etiquette, medical filing and handling of confidential documents,<br />

scheduling appointments in a variety of medical facilities and medical<br />

insurance.<br />

Legal Procedures I<br />

5 UNITS - (A)<br />

Advisories: CAOT 1 and CAOT 31 with satisfactory grades or equivalent.<br />

Preparation of court pleadings and legal documents; knowledge of general<br />

law office procedures and specific procedures involved in litigation, family<br />

law, corporate law, and other specialties; development of attitudes and<br />

behaviors appropriate for the legal field.<br />

Business English<br />

Prerequisite: English 28/31 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Required of all CAOT majors.<br />

writing sentences and paragraphs.<br />
