BIOLOGY 25<br />
Human Biology<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Advisory: Eligibility for English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
Credit not allowed for Biology 25 to students who have previous credit for<br />
Biology 1, 3, 6, 23.<br />
Lecture 3 hours.<br />
This is a survey course for the non-science major. The principle human<br />
organ systems are studied according to structure and function. Problems of<br />
pollution, population control, and preservation of the natural environment<br />
will be discussed.<br />
MICROBIOLOGY<br />
UC Limit: Microbiology 1 and 20 combined: maximum credit allowed, one<br />
course.<br />
MICROBIOLOGY 1<br />
Introductory Microbiology<br />
5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />
Prerequisite: Chemistry 60, Biology 3, with a satisfactory grade of better or<br />
equivalent.<br />
Advisory: Eligibility for English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 6 hours.<br />
In the course are bacterial physiology, cytology, genetics, growth and<br />
reproduction, and the effects of physical and chemical agents on the<br />
bacterial cell. Applied fields covered are food, water, milk, air, soil and<br />
industrial microbiology. The immune response, diseases and bacteriologic<br />
techniques are stressed.<br />
MICROBIOLOGY 20<br />
General Microbiology<br />
4 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />
Advisory: English 21 or equivalent.<br />
Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.<br />
This is a general microbiology course stressing diseases produced by microorganisms<br />
and including an introduction to bacterial classification, cytology,<br />
physiology, growth, reproduction, sterilization, disinfect ion and the applied<br />
fields of bacteriology.<br />
Bacteriological techniques are emphasized in the laboratory.<br />
MICROBIOLOGY 40<br />
Microbiology Laboratory Preparations<br />
1 UNIT – (RPT 2) (CSU)<br />
Laboratory 3 hours.<br />
This course emphasizes the preparation of media and reagents normally<br />
used in a bacteriological laboratory. Use and care of laboratory equipment<br />
and supplies are included.<br />
PHYSIOLOGY 1<br />
Introduction to Human Physiology<br />
4 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />
Prerequisite: Anatomy 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />
Advisory: English 21 or equivalent.<br />
Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.<br />
Presents general principles of physiology with special emphasis upon the<br />
human body.<br />

Our Business, Accounting and Real Estate programs will give students a<br />
solid foundation from which to advance to university Bachelor degree and<br />
MBA programs. For students who do not plan to go on to a university, <strong>LACC</strong><br />
business programs will prepare you for entry level and supervisory positions<br />
in a variety of roles for a wide range of businesses. Employment opportunities<br />
include bookkeeper, sales, ad agency staffer, office manager,<br />
supervisor, banking and investment staffer, marketing department staff and<br />
real estate agent. The business courses are also ideal for students considering<br />
starting their own businesses or those who already own small business.<br />
Even students not planning to major in business will find taking courses<br />
in the subject to be useful. Virtually every organization must manage people,<br />
finances and other resources, and do some level of marketing. Additionally,<br />
every organization relies on outside businesses to function.
