This is a first in a sequence of courses offering the opportunity to develop<br />

functional skills with synthesizers, digital keyboards, sequences, drum machines,<br />

reverb units, disk drives, and other MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital<br />

Interface) equipment.<br />

Prerequisite: Music 291 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course is a continuation of the material covered in Music 291 with emphasis<br />

on sound cards, controllers, MIDI systems, and system exclusive<br />

messages.<br />

Prerequisite: Music 292 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course is a continuation of the material covered in Music 292 with emphasis<br />

on advanced techniques in MIDI data, channel-voice messages, MIDI<br />

automation, and non-registered parameters.<br />

This course is a continuing study of the material covered in Music 293 with<br />

emphasis on advanced techniques in MIDI synchronization, digital audio<br />

files and their use.<br />

Piano I<br />

Open to all students.<br />

This course consists of instruction in basic piano skills with emphasis on<br />

learning to read music, play finger-patterns, scales, chords, and beginning<br />

pieces. Students are required to furnish their own headphones.<br />

Piano II<br />

1 UNIT - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Music 311 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Continuing instruction in basic piano skills emphasizing note reading, simple<br />

major and minor scales, triads, chord progressions, repertoire and memorization.<br />

Students are required to provide their own headphones. (If the prerequisite<br />

is not met, enrollment is subject to audition. See Auditions box.)<br />

Prerequisite: Music 312 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Continued instruction in developing piano skills with increasing emphasis on<br />

note reading, major and minor scale techniques, cadences, triads, repertoire<br />

from major historical periods, memorization. Students are required to<br />

provide their own headphones. (If prerequisite is not met, enrollment subject<br />

Piano IV<br />

Prerequisite: Music 313 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Instruction in piano skills emphasizing major and minor scales, major and<br />

minor arpeggios, repertoire from the Baroque, Romantic, and 20th century,<br />

memorization and sight reading skills. Students are required to provide their<br />

own headphones. (If the prerequisite is not met, enrollment is subject to<br />

audition. See Auditions box.)<br />

Organ Practice Lab<br />

0.5 UNITS - (RPT 3)<br />

Co-requisite: Either Music 381, 382, 383, or 384.<br />

This course allows students currently enrolled in any of the co-requisite organ<br />

classes to use the lab equipment and materials to enhance applicable<br />

skills necessary for success.
