Lecture 3 hours<br />

An elementary course dealing with the earth’s surface features and the geological<br />

laws governing their origin and development.<br />

GEOLOGY 6<br />

Physical Geology Laboratory<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

This lecture/laboratory course emphasizes the identification of minerals, and<br />

their role in rock identification. Utilization of topographic maps in the identification<br />

of Geologic features and Geologic structures is emphasized. The<br />

course involves 1 hour of laboratory - lecture and 2 hours of laboratory work.<br />

Note: Geology 6 may be taken concurrently with Geology 1.<br />

METEOROLOGY 3 (Same as Geography 3)<br />

Introduction To Weather And Climate<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

This course examines the physical laws, which relate to the causes of the<br />

weather phenomena and the distribution of climate types. The role of solar<br />

energy is emphasized.<br />

OCEANOGRAPHY 1<br />

Introduction To Oceanography<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

An introduction to the general field of oceanography including study of the<br />

nature and movement of seawater, tides, currents, and wave action. The<br />

ocean deeps, continental shelves and shoreline features will be covered<br />

with special reference to Southern California and the changes people have<br />

made. Field trip or study aboard a marine research vessel will be an integral<br />

part of the course.<br />

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE 1<br />

The Human Environment: Physical Processes<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

This course is an introductory examination of the basic scientific principles<br />

of environmental science with an emphasis in relating the physical aspects<br />

of the environment to human contributions. Emphasis is placed on the integration<br />

of factors such as environmental spheres and cycles, natural hazards,<br />

resources, and pollution, and resource use and management with social<br />

solutions and world distribution.<br />

Health and Fitness<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Course explores physical fitness as related to cardiovascular capacity,<br />

nutrition, stress, and addictive substances. The course involves laboratory<br />

assessment of each student’s fitness status, lecture, and selected fitness<br />

activities. Based on these experiences students develop individualized fitness<br />

programs.<br />

Women’s Personal Health<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

The course examines the personal and social dimensions of women’s health<br />

and the development of strategies for empowerment in decision making that<br />

impact changes and improvement in health welfare.<br />

HEALTH 11<br />

Principles of Healthful Living<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

The course offers health related concepts for today and the future as<br />

guidelines for a self-directed, responsible, satisfying, and productive lifestyle.<br />

Emphasis is on cognitive concepts and strategies of wellness for the<br />

individuals personal community, vocational, and leadership roles.
