Adult Supervision and Early Childhood Mentoring<br />

2 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Child Development 22 or 38 or 39 or equivalent.<br />

This course satisfies the Child Development Permit Master Teacher adult<br />

supervision requirement and is designed for students who currently, or will<br />

supervise adults in an early childhood program. Students compare methods<br />

and principles of supervision and mentoring as well as how to develop<br />

positive team relationships and utilize conflict resolution techniques. Additional<br />

emphasis is placed on advocacy and professional development as<br />

well as special issues effecting ECE supervision.<br />

Child Development Lab<br />

0.5 UNITS - (A) (RPT 3)<br />

Co-requisite: One of the following Child Development 2, 3, 4,10, 22, 23, 30,<br />

31, 35, 42, 44, 45, 46, 47. Music 130, 146, 147.<br />

Students interested, or currently working in the field of Child Development<br />

may obtain technical support while using lab material, equipment and the<br />

Child Development lab Library resources to design lesson plans, games,<br />

and other curricular activities. A $20.00 lab fee is required.<br />

Child Development Lab II<br />

0.5 UNITS - (A) (RPT 3)<br />

Prerequisite: Child Development 84 or equivalent.<br />

Students interested in continuing The Child Development Lab experience<br />

will focus on quality literary experiences such as exposure to age-appropriate<br />

literacy materials, and (modeling or practicing) library habits under the<br />

supervision of a literacy expert. Students will evaluate and analyze literacy<br />

materials, be able to write activity plans, and create instructional materials<br />

that support emerging literacy. A $20.00 lab fee is required.<br />

Education in American Society<br />

3 UNITS – (CSU)<br />

The course is designed to provide future teachers with the fundamental knowledge<br />

essential for understanding the American educational enterprise. Concepts<br />

and methods from the fields of sociology, philosophy, and the politics of<br />

education are used to analyze the current conditions of urban schools and to<br />

evaluate selected proposals/models for reform. A minimum of 20 hours of<br />

observation and participation in a multicultural setting is required.<br />

CHILD DEV 385 Directed Study — 3 UNITS (CSU)<br />

Allows the student to pursue directed study in Child Development on a<br />

contract basis under the direction of a supervising instructor. Refer to the<br />

“Directed Study” section of this catalogue for additional information. A<br />

maximum of 3 units in Directed Study may be taken for credit.<br />
