Veterans, service members, and their survivors and dependents may<br />

apply for their VA Educational Benefit Programs through the Veterans’<br />

Affairs Office. To initiate the VA Certification Process, Veteran students<br />

must complete a VA Application form and submit it with their DD-214,<br />

Verification of Enrollment, and Veteran Educational Plan to the Veterans’<br />

Affairs Office. An advance payment of the benefits may be obtained, if<br />

eligible, by submitting a request at least 30 days prior to the start of the<br />

enrollment period to be certified.<br />

Veteran students who had previously attended another post-secondary<br />

institution must submit a transcript from the institution (civilian and military)<br />

for evaluation by an academic counselor prior to certifying for a second<br />

enrollment period. <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> City College, as required by the<br />

Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) policy, conducts an evaluation of all<br />

prior postsecondary education, experience and training (civilian and<br />

military) before certifying for a second enrollment period. <strong>As</strong> required, <strong>Los</strong><br />

<strong>Angeles</strong> City College grants the appropriate credit, shortening the training<br />

period proportionately, and notifies both the DVA and the student of the<br />

amount of credit allowed towards their declared program.<br />

Unless otherwise notified, all programs (majors) in this catalog are<br />

approved for VA benefits payment. Transfer programs are approved<br />

contingent upon <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> City College having current articulation<br />

agreements with the universities offering the transfer programs. Contact<br />

the Transfer Center for more information about approved transfer<br />

programs. To maintain eligibility, Veteran students must maintain<br />

standards of academic progress as indicated in the College Catalog
