PSYCHOLOGY 1<br />
General Psychology I<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU) (CAN PSY 2)<br />
Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
This course is a general introduction to the scientific study of human behavior.<br />
An emphasis is placed upon learning, motivation, intelligence, feelings and<br />
emotions, personality, and methods of adjustment. Standardized<br />
psychological inventories may be given to the student to help to understand<br />
the important concepts in each of these areas. The student planning transfer<br />
of a year of Psychology should follow Psychology 1 with either Psychology 2<br />
or Psychology 3, according to his upper division major requirements.<br />
PSYCHOLOGY 2<br />
General Psychology II<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
Required of majors in Psychology.<br />
This course explains psychological behavior on the basis of events taking<br />
place in the brain, nervous systems and endocrine glands. The biological<br />
events which underlie these systems are explained and identified with regard<br />
to their effect on moods, sexuality, motivation, sleep, perception, and learning.<br />
PSYCHOLOGY 3<br />
Personality and Social Development<br />

Prerequisite: Psychology 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />
Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
This course focuses on self awareness and personality development. Topics<br />
considered include love, work, loneliness, death and loss, intimate<br />
relationships, sex roles and sexuality, and values in life.<br />
PSYCHOLOGY 13<br />
Social Psychology<br />

Prerequisite: Psychology 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />
The study of social influences on our behavior, attitudes and feelings.<br />
PSYCHOLOGY 14<br />
Abnormal Psychology<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Prerequisite: Psychology 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />
An overview of abnormal behavior from the perspective of contemporary<br />
medical, psychosocial, and socio-cultural approaches. Abnormal disorders<br />
are described, and their major causes and treatment are reviewed.<br />
PSYCHOLOGY 18<br />
Psychology of Women’s and Men’s Changing Roles<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Studies psychological and sociological implications of sex roles. Covers<br />
present information and research on biologically and culturally determined<br />
characteristics of women and men and how these affect personality, their<br />
relationship to work, education, family, law, and politics. Special adjustment<br />
problems of women and men in our society will be emphasized.
