These studies have documented an increase in spring water temperature (Figure<br />

VI.A.2) leading to an earlier onset of <strong>the</strong>rmal stratification, a longer stratified<br />

period during summer, higher summer surface temperatures, <strong>and</strong> a trend of<br />

rising deep-water temperature. Among <strong>the</strong> lakes analysed so far in <strong>the</strong><br />

Salzkammergut region, a high degree of synchrony (coherence) in timing of physical<br />

<strong>and</strong> chemical parameters has been established. <strong>Change</strong>s in run-off conditions<br />

may alter <strong>the</strong> residence time <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> in-lake concentrations in <strong>the</strong> near future.<br />
