(6) in all purpose clauses, usually introduced by ji bo ku ‘in order that’:<br />

Ez diçim xwendegehê ji bo ku ez<br />

bixwînim.<br />

I go to school in order to study.<br />

Ez dixwînim ji bo ku bibim mamoste. I’m studying in order to become a<br />

teacher.<br />

Ji bo ku tu ji nexweşiyê bifilitî, divê<br />

doktor li te binêre û bi nexweşiya te<br />

bizanîbe.<br />

In order for you to get rid of your illness,<br />

it is necessary for the doctor to have a<br />

look at you and diagnose your illness.<br />

(7) in clauses complementary to adjectives, where English usually has a<br />

complementary infinitive: 1<br />

Gelê me, gotin û kelîmeyên ku dizane<br />

jî ne amede ye ku ji sembol û herfan<br />

bixwîne.<br />

Our society is not ready to read even<br />

words it knows from symbols and<br />

letters.<br />

(8) In relative clauses introduced by indefinite relative pronouns like herkesê<br />

ku ‘anybody who’ &c.:<br />

Herkesê ku bi kurdî binivîse, di destpêkê<br />

de û heta demeke dirêj, ê pergî<br />

zehmetiyên mezin were.<br />

Anybody who writes in Kurdish will encounter<br />

major difficulties at the beginning<br />

and for a long time.<br />

(9) In relative and result clauses after negative expressions:<br />

Tiştek ne dihat xuya kirin ku mirov<br />

bibêje ev ê bikaribe bibe sedema ewte<br />

ewta kûçikên gund.<br />

Salên min ne ewqas zêde ne ku ez<br />

bibêjim, ez pir jiyame û min gelek<br />

dîtiye.<br />

Nothing could be made out that one<br />

might say it could be the reason for the<br />

barking of the dogs of the village.<br />

My years are not so many that I could<br />

say I have lived a lot and seen much.<br />

1 But not in clauses dependent upon adjectives that describe situations or actions<br />

that actually pertain or have taken place, which are in the indicative mood, as:<br />

Ez xwe bextiyar dibînim ku mamostetiya<br />

gundeki weha bûye para min.<br />
