From 1813 fathers’ occupations are given in the baptism registers. As noted for<br />

Zones A <strong>an</strong>d B (in Chapters 4 <strong>an</strong>d 5), the figures from baptism data are more realistic<br />

th<strong>an</strong> those from probate or marriage licences. The steady decline in the primary sec<strong>to</strong>r<br />

<strong>an</strong>d corresponding growth in the other sec<strong>to</strong>rs c<strong>an</strong> be seen over the period.<br />
