Arrow - a large parish of 4087 acres situated on the River Arrow, including the hamlets of<br />

Ragley, Kingley <strong>an</strong>d Oversley; Warwick de<strong>an</strong>ery, Worcester diocese; The greater part of<br />

the parish is in Alcester Division of Barlichway Hundred, Warwickshire, but Oversley was<br />

in the Stratford Division. Both parts were in Alcester Union, indeed the Union Workhouse<br />

was built in Oversley in 1837. Alcester (post) 2, Stratford 8, Evesham 9. Ragley Hall was<br />

the seat of the Seymour-Conway family, Marquesses of Hertford, lords of the m<strong>an</strong>or of<br />

Arrow (which included the former m<strong>an</strong>ors of Kingley <strong>an</strong>d Ragley). The m<strong>an</strong>or of Oversley<br />

(including the parishes of Exhall, Wixford, Temple Graf<strong>to</strong>n <strong>an</strong>d at least part of Kings<br />

Broom) was held by the Throckmor<strong>to</strong>ns of Cough<strong>to</strong>n Court. Oversley Bridge carried the<br />

Alcester <strong>to</strong> Stratford road over the Arrow. The roads from Evesham <strong>to</strong> Alcester <strong>an</strong>d<br />

Redditch also go through the parish. The l<strong>an</strong>d rises from the Arrow <strong>to</strong> the Warwickshire<br />

county boundary on the Ridgeway. No record of parliamentary enclosure.<br />

As<strong>to</strong>n C<strong>an</strong>tlow - a large parish of 4966 acres in valley of River Alne, including<br />

Wilmcote, (which became a separate parish in 1863), Little Alne, Newnham, Shelfield <strong>an</strong>d<br />

Pathlow; Warwick de<strong>an</strong>ery, Worcester diocese; Stratford Division of Barlichway<br />

Hundred, Warwickshire, Alcester Union. Alcester 4, Henley (post) 4, Stratford 5. Various<br />

import<strong>an</strong>t routes through the parish including the old saltway from Droitwich <strong>to</strong> Warwick,<br />

the Old London Road <strong>an</strong>d the Birmingham <strong>to</strong> Stratford road. Enclosure award 1744. The<br />

Nevill family Barons, Earls <strong>an</strong>d Marquesses of Abergavenny held the m<strong>an</strong>or of As<strong>to</strong>n<br />

C<strong>an</strong>tlow (including Shelfield) throughout the period. Little Alne was held by the Skinner<br />

<strong>an</strong>d Fulwood families. Wilmcote was originally separate, but had become part of the main<br />
