The above tables show the share of agricultural <strong>an</strong>d non-agricultural labourers in<br />

each parish. Quarrying parishes such as Temple Graf<strong>to</strong>n <strong>an</strong>d Exhall have a high percentage<br />

of non-agricultural labourers.<br />

In the Study Area taken as a whole the bal<strong>an</strong>ce between males <strong>an</strong>d females is fairly<br />

even. The male/female split in population differs markedly between parishes. For<br />

example, the Worcestershire part of Tardebigge (which includes Redditch) has a high<br />

number of females, some working in the needle trade <strong>an</strong>d others in services <strong>an</strong>d retailing.<br />

Quarrying parishes have a higher percentage of men th<strong>an</strong> m<strong>an</strong>y others.<br />

For comparative purposes the male/female split is shown below for earlier censuses<br />

<strong>to</strong>o.<br />
