If the initial RRQ packet is lost, the DATA timer will expire too, <strong>and</strong> the connection will not be open.<br />

In case of DATA timer expiration, the client would not get its translation table <strong>and</strong> will not be configured. For that<br />

reason, it must retry sending another RRQ message again to request the translation table.<br />

DATA timer value should be several times the ACK timer. Concretely, this value must be slightly greater than the<br />

product of the Maximum Number of Retransmissions <strong>and</strong> the ACK timer:<br />

DATA_Timer > Max_Retransmissions · ACK_Timer<br />

The reason for using this value is to avoid useless retransmissions by the server, because the client might have<br />

closed its connection, due to DATA timer timeout, before the server did. Thus, in case of DATA timer expiration,<br />

the server should close the connection before the client.<br />
