• Step 1: A PTTP request is made without VLANs and waits for a response. If there is response, stay without
VLAN.
• Step 2: Then it switches to VLAN mode and makes a PTTP request using VLAN tag #1 (reserved in the
IEEE P1901 network) and waits for response. If there is response, stay with VLAN.
Step 3: Back to step 1.
To accomplish this, the VLAN #1 must be accepted in the node that acts as PTTP master.
12.2.5.6 PTTP packets forwarding
When a node receives a PTTP RRQ packet, the packet is not treated as multicast to avoid packet storms.
In transmission, the request is forwarded to all active interfaces in order to reach any active PTTP available server.
12.2.6 Translation Table
The translation table allows particularizing configuration files for a given network sector. Auto-configuration file is
parametric, and the same for a given user category. Different sectors have different Translation Tables and each
node combines its configuration file with the translation table to obtain its particular setting in VLAN/OVLAN and
QoS terms.
The parameters cointained in the translation table are shown in 12.2.5.4.
The next figure shows the use of the translation table.
