Information was also collected on possession <strong>of</strong> assets to give an <strong>in</strong>dication <strong>of</strong> wealth.<br />

Assets <strong>in</strong>cluded hous<strong>in</strong>g and means <strong>of</strong> transport owned such as animal-drawn cart, bicycle, or<br />

motorized vehicle (Table 13).<br />

<strong>The</strong> farmers <strong>in</strong> the study region rely mostly on bicycle transport ow<strong>in</strong>g to a poor road<br />

network. <strong>The</strong> average distance from the farms to a seasonally passable road was 7.6<br />

kilometers (range: 0–58 kilometers, standard deviation = 7.10), whereas the average distance<br />

to a road passable all year round was estimated at 13.10 kilometers (range: 0–63 kilometers,<br />

standard deviation = 20.90).
