4. Is the couple able to avoid unprotected sex on days when the woman can get<br />

pregnant (white-bead days)? This question is designed to help identify whether the<br />

couple is hav<strong>in</strong>g problems avoid<strong>in</strong>g unprotected sex. The question is also meant to<br />

identify whether the woman has been able to tell her partner on any given day whether or<br />

not she wants to have sex, and whether this has become a source <strong>of</strong> conflict <strong>in</strong> the<br />

relationship.<br />

Recommended questions:<br />

- How are you and your partner do<strong>in</strong>g with the method?<br />

- Have you and your partner talked about the need to avoid unprotected sex<br />

on days when you can get pregnant?<br />

- Have you come to an agreement on what to do dur<strong>in</strong>g those days?<br />

- What are you and your partner do<strong>in</strong>g to prevent pregnancy dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

fertile days?<br />

- Is this work<strong>in</strong>g for you? Do you th<strong>in</strong>k that this is work<strong>in</strong>g for your<br />

partner?<br />

- Who is responsible for keep<strong>in</strong>g track <strong>of</strong> which days you can have sex, and<br />

which days you must avoid unprotected sex? How do you and your partner<br />

communicate with each other about which days you can have sex?<br />

- Are you hav<strong>in</strong>g any problems with the method?<br />

5. Are both partners without risk <strong>of</strong> sexually transmitted <strong>in</strong>fections?<br />

This question is designed to determ<strong>in</strong>e if the woman still perceives that there is no risk <strong>of</strong><br />

sexually transmitted <strong>in</strong>fection (STI) and to rem<strong>in</strong>d her that the SDM will not protect<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st HIV/AIDS or STIs. In circumstances where either partner has sex with more than<br />

one person, there may be a risk.<br />

Recommended questions:<br />

- People who have sex with more than one person risk gett<strong>in</strong>g a sexually<br />

transmitted <strong>in</strong>fection and the SDM does not protect you aga<strong>in</strong>st these<br />

<strong>in</strong>fections. S<strong>in</strong>ce you have been us<strong>in</strong>g SDM, have either you or your<br />

partner been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted <strong>in</strong>fection?<br />

- Do you still believe that you and your partner are not at risk <strong>of</strong> contract<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a sexually transmitted <strong>in</strong>fection?<br />

6. Are both partners satisfied with the method and do they want to cont<strong>in</strong>ue us<strong>in</strong>g<br />

it?<br />

This question is to determ<strong>in</strong>e if the users are satisfied with the method and whether the<br />

couple <strong>in</strong>tends to cont<strong>in</strong>ue us<strong>in</strong>g it.<br />
