<strong>in</strong>structions. Ask participants to reflect upon their reactions to the activity as they are do<strong>in</strong>g<br />

it.<br />

Give participants several m<strong>in</strong>utes at the end to complete their designs.<br />

Ask participants:<br />

‣ What are your impressions concern<strong>in</strong>g the activity? Was it easy? Difficult? Why?<br />

Difficult:<br />

• I didn’t understand the <strong>in</strong>structions<br />

• There was not enough <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

Ask several people to guess the type <strong>of</strong> animal they have drawn. Show the picture <strong>of</strong> the<br />

anteater. Re-read the description and <strong>in</strong>dicate each part <strong>of</strong> the body as it is mentioned.<br />

Ask participants:<br />

‣ What have you learned from this activity concern<strong>in</strong>g visual aids? What lesson can<br />

you draw concern<strong>in</strong>g learn<strong>in</strong>g new <strong>in</strong>formation expressed a) <strong>in</strong> words, and b) <strong>in</strong><br />

pictures?<br />

• Visual aids are <strong>of</strong>ten necessary for understand<strong>in</strong>g new <strong>in</strong>formation.<br />

• A good visual aid attracts the attention <strong>of</strong> the group<br />

‣ Could you describe an IUD or a condom to people who have never heard <strong>of</strong> them,<br />

without a visual aid?<br />

‣ What happens when people do not understand what you tell them?<br />

Often people do not understand what is said and this misunderstand<strong>in</strong>g leads to rumors.<br />

Sometimes, even with a visual aid (a real object), the term<strong>in</strong>ology we use is an obstacle to<br />

the people's understand<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Give each participant a copy <strong>of</strong> a picture <strong>of</strong> a young/old lady. Do NOT tell them what is <strong>in</strong><br />

the picture. Ask them to study the picture for a m<strong>in</strong>ute without talk<strong>in</strong>g, then to share with<br />

the group what they see <strong>in</strong> the picture.<br />

Ask the follow<strong>in</strong>g questions:<br />

‣ What do you see?<br />

Responses will vary.<br />

Hopefully, at least one person will see a young, or an old, lady.<br />
