OBSTACLES TO COMMUNICATION<br />

2. Threaten<strong>in</strong>g, warn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Tell<strong>in</strong>g the woman the negative consequences that will happen if she acts a certa<strong>in</strong><br />

way<br />

3. Advis<strong>in</strong>g, giv<strong>in</strong>g solutions, moraliz<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Tell<strong>in</strong>g the woman how to solve her problem.<br />

4. Judg<strong>in</strong>g, criticiz<strong>in</strong>g, disagree<strong>in</strong>g, blam<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Mak<strong>in</strong>g a negative judgment or evaluation <strong>of</strong> the woman.<br />

5. Label<strong>in</strong>g, stereotyp<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Putt<strong>in</strong>g the woman <strong>in</strong>to a category to shame her.<br />

6. Interpret<strong>in</strong>g, analyz<strong>in</strong>g, diagnos<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Tell<strong>in</strong>g the woman what her motives are, analyz<strong>in</strong>g what she is do<strong>in</strong>g or say<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Draw<strong>in</strong>g the woman away from her problem (possibly because mediator doesn't<br />

know how to deal with it): chang<strong>in</strong>g the subject etc.<br />
