One representative <strong>of</strong> each group will present their conclusions <strong>in</strong> front <strong>of</strong> their<br />

colleagues. Ask the other participants if they have questions, comments or a different<br />

approach.<br />

Us<strong>in</strong>g the solutions/proposals identified by participants, summarize the session.<br />

Emphasize that, despite the fact that women have been giv<strong>in</strong>g birth to children for<br />

thousands <strong>of</strong> years and despite the fact that the science is advanc<strong>in</strong>g all the time, still<br />

there are cases when women and/or children are dy<strong>in</strong>g dur<strong>in</strong>g pregnancy and delivery.<br />

Emphasize that maternal mortality it would be lower if:<br />

• Women had good health and nutrition before gett<strong>in</strong>g pregnant (they are<br />

biologically prepared for the pregnancy)<br />

• Pregnant women received antenatal care on regular basis, went to hospital for<br />

delivery, and received postnatal follow-up<br />

• Women had all the necessary <strong>in</strong>formation about the normal changes dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

pregnancy and postpartum period and how to stay healthy<br />

• Women and their families sought emergency care immediately when a pregnancyrelated<br />

problem occurred.<br />
