Myths and Facts about Vasectomy<br />

Myth: A vasectomy is a big operation that reduces the person’s strength and ability to<br />

work.<br />

Facts: A vasectomy is a very small operation and has no ill effects on the health <strong>of</strong> the<br />

person. After a vasectomy, the man can resume normal activity after 2-3 days.<br />

Myth: A vasectomy makes the man impotent and he cannot have a normal sex life.<br />

Fact: A vasectomy does not affect the sexual performance <strong>of</strong> the man <strong>in</strong> any way<br />

because the testes cont<strong>in</strong>ue to produce the male hormone as before and with a vasectomy,<br />

only the tubes carry<strong>in</strong>g the sperm from the testes to the penis are blocked. The hormones<br />

pass through the blood vessels, which are not affected by the vasectomy.<br />

Myth: After the vasectomy, there will be no sexual fluid (semen) dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tercourse.<br />

Fact: After a vasectomy, the semen rema<strong>in</strong>s the same as before <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> amount,<br />

smell, appearance and thickness. The only difference is that it does not conta<strong>in</strong> sperm.<br />

Myth: A vasectomy causes the testes to shr<strong>in</strong>k.<br />

Fact: A vasectomy does not effect the size <strong>of</strong> the testes <strong>in</strong> any way.<br />
