Myth: Most <strong>of</strong> the mothers do not have sufficient milk to fully breastfeed their babies.<br />

Fact: Milk production is directly related to suckl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the breast by the <strong>in</strong>fant. Mothers<br />

should not lose heart but should cont<strong>in</strong>ue putt<strong>in</strong>g their babies to the breast for frequent<br />

suckl<strong>in</strong>g so that milk production is optimal. They should eat well to assist <strong>in</strong> milk<br />

production.<br />

Myth: Exclusive breastfeed<strong>in</strong>g is not sufficient for a baby’s growth dur<strong>in</strong>g the first 6<br />

months and supplementation is required earlier.<br />

Fact: Exclusive breastfeed<strong>in</strong>g for the first six months provides sufficient nutrition,<br />

supply<strong>in</strong>g all the needs <strong>of</strong> the <strong>in</strong>fant for the first six months. It also complements the<br />

<strong>in</strong>fant’s immature immune system.<br />
