TRAINING OF ROMA HEALTH MEDIATORS<br />

IN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH<br />

Goal: To improve the competence <strong>of</strong> <strong>Roma</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Mediators</strong> <strong>in</strong> promot<strong>in</strong>g positive<br />

reproductive health practices <strong>in</strong> their communities.<br />

General Objectives: By the end <strong>of</strong> the workshop, participants will be able to:<br />

1. Expla<strong>in</strong> basic concepts <strong>of</strong> <strong>Reproductive</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and Family Plann<strong>in</strong>g to persons <strong>in</strong><br />

their communities<br />

2. Describe <strong>in</strong> simple terms the anatomy and physiology <strong>of</strong> human reproduction<br />

3. Expla<strong>in</strong> family plann<strong>in</strong>g methods to persons <strong>in</strong> their communities<br />

4. Promote Safe Motherhood (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g prenatal and postnatal care) with members<br />

<strong>of</strong> their communities<br />

5. Promote the optimal care <strong>of</strong> newborns with members <strong>of</strong> their communities<br />

6. Promote breastfeed<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> newborns/<strong>in</strong>fants <strong>in</strong> their communities<br />

7. Describe to community members measures for reduc<strong>in</strong>g other reproductive<br />

health-related risks (STIs, HIV, <strong>in</strong>fertility, and breast and cervical cancer)<br />

8. Conduct group education sessions on reproductive health issues <strong>in</strong> their<br />

communities<br />
