SESSION 2: BASIC CONCEPTS OF REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND FAMILY<br />

PLANNING<br />

OBJECTIVES: By the end <strong>of</strong> the session, participants should be able to:<br />

1. Def<strong>in</strong>e the concepts <strong>Reproductive</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and Family Plann<strong>in</strong>g<br />

2. List reproductive health services available <strong>in</strong> their communities<br />

3. Describe:<br />

• The rights <strong>of</strong> the clients receiv<strong>in</strong>g reproductive health services<br />

• Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>of</strong> family plann<strong>in</strong>g<br />

4. Def<strong>in</strong>e the benefits <strong>of</strong> family plann<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>in</strong>dividuals, families, and the<br />

community<br />

5. Identify barriers to practic<strong>in</strong>g family plann<strong>in</strong>g<br />

6. Expla<strong>in</strong> the role <strong>of</strong> health mediators <strong>in</strong> help<strong>in</strong>g community members access and<br />

use reproductive health and family plann<strong>in</strong>g services<br />

• Story: Barriers to Family Plann<strong>in</strong>g<br />

• Papers <strong>of</strong> different sizes with the word “motivation”<br />

‣ What does the term “reproduction” mean?<br />

Reproduction means procreation, hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>fspr<strong>in</strong>g or babies.<br />

‣ With<strong>in</strong> a couple, who is responsible for mak<strong>in</strong>g reproduction happen?<br />

Both the man and the woman are responsible for reproduction.<br />
