penis.<br />

10. Expla<strong>in</strong> the importance <strong>of</strong> hold<strong>in</strong>g the condom rim to the base <strong>of</strong> the penis dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Myth: The condom will break.<br />

Fact: Condoms are very strong. They rarely break, especially if care is taken to use them<br />

correctly.<br />

Myth: The condom will decrease sexual pleasure.<br />

Fact: Condoms are made <strong>of</strong> extremely th<strong>in</strong> rubber. Although sex with a condom does not<br />

feel exactly like sex without it, it is just as enjoyable for most people. The security <strong>of</strong><br />

know<strong>in</strong>g the woman will not get pregnant while us<strong>in</strong>g a condom can actually improve the<br />

couple’s sexual pleasure. (You may <strong>in</strong>vite participants to palpate the tip <strong>of</strong> their nose with<br />

one <strong>of</strong> their f<strong>in</strong>gers and then with another f<strong>in</strong>ger covered with a condom. Ask: can you<br />

feel your nose through the condom? Emphasize that a slight reduction <strong>in</strong> tactile<br />

sensations can extend the duration <strong>of</strong> the sexual <strong>in</strong>tercourse, most <strong>of</strong> the couples<br />

consider<strong>in</strong>g this as an advantage.)<br />

Myth: Condoms usually cause allergy.<br />

Fact: Allergy to condoms is very rarely seen.<br />

Myth: Condoms are harmful if used over many years.<br />

Fact: They are extremely safe and protect both partners from STIs <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g HIV/AIDS,<br />

pelvic <strong>in</strong>flammatory disease (PID) and cancer <strong>of</strong> cervix <strong>in</strong> women. So regular use <strong>of</strong><br />

condoms is recommended.<br />
