‣ Does this happen to all babies?<br />

No<br />

‣ Why is it that some babies get this sickness and others do not?<br />

Some breastfeed longer, and their mothers give them all k<strong>in</strong>ds <strong>of</strong> foods (fruit, meat and<br />

vegetables) <strong>in</strong> addition to breast milk, and they do not get this sickness.<br />

‣ At what age should babies start eat<strong>in</strong>g other foods (while cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g to breastfeed)?<br />

What should they eat?<br />

At 6 months, they should beg<strong>in</strong> eat<strong>in</strong>g small amounts <strong>of</strong>:<br />

• fruit juice and/or s<strong>of</strong>t fruits<br />

• light porridge, enriched progressively with one or more <strong>of</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

accord<strong>in</strong>g to the child's age and the family's possibilities:<br />

o Oil<br />

o Milk<br />

o Dried fish (powdered)<br />

o Egg (raw egg cooked <strong>in</strong>to the porridge)<br />

o Well-cooked and mashed beans<br />

‣ What can you do to treat your child if s/he has this sickness?<br />

Depend<strong>in</strong>g upon what the baby is already eat<strong>in</strong>g, add oil to his/her porridge, and beg<strong>in</strong><br />

add<strong>in</strong>g the other foods.<br />

‣ Who would like to summarize what we need to feed our babies so that they are<br />

healthy and grow well?<br />

• Give them only breast milk until they are 6 months <strong>of</strong> age<br />

• At 6 months, they should beg<strong>in</strong> eat<strong>in</strong>g small amounts <strong>of</strong>:<br />

o fruit juice and/or s<strong>of</strong>t fruits<br />

o light porridge, enriched progressively with one or more <strong>of</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

accord<strong>in</strong>g to the child's age and the family's possibilities:<br />

• Cont<strong>in</strong>ue to give the baby beast milk until the age <strong>of</strong> 1-2 years if possible<br />

Ask the follow<strong>in</strong>g questions about the use <strong>of</strong> group discussion as an educational method<br />
