This papershows for a specific case how structural changes in various economic sectors, associated to thetransition from a centrally planned economy to a free market with European Union membership, canbe related to socioeconomic metabolic variations. The Romanian exosomatic metabolism is discussedover a period of seven years (1999-2006) for sectors/industries on disaggregated hierarchical levels;the focus is on the analysis of industry-level data presented in correlation with microeconomicchanges.
