Once the military dictatorshipcame to power, it took over death squad activity in a muchmore conscious and brutal manner in the Dirty War.Rega spent 1975 in Spain and from 1976 to 1982 lived under an assumedname in Switzerland. Following the return <strong>of</strong> democracy in Argentinain 1983, he became a fugitive moving between Miami, Florida,and the Bahamas until he was arrested on charges <strong>of</strong> homicide andextradited from the United States to Argentina, where he died in 1989while awaiting trial. On 29 December 2006 a former AAA leader, RodolfoAlmirón Sena, was arrested in Valencia, Spain, on an Argentinewarrant charging him with crimes against humanity, including themurders <strong>of</strong> five prominent Argentinean figures opposed to Perón.ARMED COMMANDOS FOR NATIONAL LIBERATION(CALN). The Comandos Armados de Liberación Nacional was aPuerto Rican ethnonationalist separatist group formed in 1969. TheCALN bombed five U.S. businesses in Puerto Rico on 14 November1970 and the San Juan consulate <strong>of</strong> the Dominican Republic on 23November 1970. The Puerto Rican police broke up this group, butits members later reorganized themselves and joined with members<strong>of</strong> another separatist group, forming in 1974 the Armed Forces <strong>of</strong>National Liberation (FALN).ARMED FORCES OF LIBERATION / FUERZAS ARMADASDE LIBERACIÓN. The group was formed from the merger <strong>of</strong> the remnants<strong>of</strong> the Armed Commandos <strong>of</strong> National Liberation (CALN)and the Armed Independence Revolutionary Movement in 1974.The group’s first operation was to bomb five banks in New YorkCity on 26 October 1974.
