702 • WHITE WARRIORS’ UNIONof Europe, or includes all Caucasian people of European descent, includingEastern European and Mediterranean nationalities. For manydomestic U.S. right-wing groups, this ideology is either an essentialtenet of the group, as with the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazi, or IdentityChristian groups, or else this belief is widely held by members of agroup but is not necessarily part of the core ideology of the group, asappears to be the case with the Posse Comitatus and Minutemangroups. Those who hold white supremacy beliefs often hold anti-Semitic beliefs and exclude Jews from their definition of white Caucasian.White supremacist groups exist throughout North America, GreatBritain, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. In SouthAfrica the white supremacists are generally found among Afrikaanergroups, such as the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB), or AfrikaanerResistance Movement, which become reactivated in 2008 andopposes the current postapartheid government in favor of the creationof a Volkstaat, or whites-only homeland, within South Africa. While the white supremacist doctrines of North American groupstend to be joined with Identity Christianity, or other fundamentalistChristian beliefs, the ideology of British and European skinheadsand neo-Nazis is secular, agnostic, and even hostile to Christianity, which Adolf Hitler and many of his close associates viewed as anoutgrowth of Judaism, non-European and therefore corrupt. In theUnited States, the World Church of the Creator, also known as theCreativity Movement, is a white supremacist group that explicitlyrejects Christianity even in the Identity Christian form.WHITE WARRIORS’ UNION (UGB). The Unión de GuerrerosBlancos (White Warriors’ Union), or Unión Guerrera Blanca (WhiteFighting Union), was a nonstate death squad founded in 1976 byRoberto D’Aubuisson for the limited purpose of repressing leftistelements in Salvadoran society. Due to the involvement of the Societyof Jesus and other Roman Catholic educators with liberationtheology and espousal of leftist causes, this group was pronouncedlyanti-Jesuit, although it claimed to be loyal to the traditional valuesof Catholicism. The UGB claimed credit for killing two priests inSan Salvador, Father Alfonso Navarro Oviedo, who was murderedon 11 May 1976, and Father Rutilio Grande, S.J., who was killed on12 March 1977 along with two companions. In 1979 the UGB killedseveral teachers and also bombed the house of a trade union leader.
