It is theirs to offer for the sins of theworld,—theirs to mediate between earth <strong>and</strong> heaven.And.thus the dignity of the priesthood of Christ is completelyeclipsed by the priesthood of Rome, <strong>and</strong> the glory of hiscross by Rome"'s great sacrifice of the mass.Moreover, the doctrine of the mass traverses all the leadingprinciples <strong>and</strong> statements of the Bible on the subjectof Christ"'s offering.<strong>The</strong> Bible teaches that the office <strong>and</strong>functions of priesthood are for ever at an end ; the sacrificoof the mass implies that they are still in being. <strong>The</strong> Bibleteaches that the sacrifice of Christ was offered " once forall," <strong>and</strong> is never to be repeated \\ but in the mass, Christcontinues to be offered in sacrifice every day at the thous<strong>and</strong>altars of Rome. <strong>The</strong> great law of the Bible on the subjectof satisfaction is, that " without shedding of blood there isno remission."This law the mass contradicts, inasmuch asit teaches that there is " remission" by <strong>its</strong> unhloody sacrifice,<strong>and</strong> so virtually affirms that the blood of Christ wasuselessly shed.While on this subject, we may be permitted to remark,that the man who assumes to be a priest ischargeable witha blasphemy next to that of the man who assumes to beGod.
