Itis as the opening of p<strong>and</strong>emonium <strong>its</strong>elf. One wonders thatthe earth has borne so long a society so atrociously wicked,or that the lightnings of heaven have so long forborne toconsume it. This doctrine of enormous turpitude is thedispensing power. <strong>The</strong> Church of Rome has adopted as aleading principle of her policy, thai faith is not to be kept withheretics when <strong>its</strong> violation is necessary for the interests of theChurch.This abominable doctrine papists have disclaimed.This does not surprise us. A priori, it was to be expectedthat any society that was wicked enough to adopt such aprinciple would bo base enough to deny it.Besides, to confessto this policy would be the sure way of defeating <strong>its</strong>end. Who would contract alliances with Rome, if told beforeh<strong>and</strong>that she would keep to them not a moment longerthan it suited her own purposes ? Who would entrust himselfto her promise, if he saw it to be the net in which he wasto be caught <strong>and</strong> destroyed ? Were living Papists prepared
