" Abaris cameto Athens," continues Himerius *, " holding a bow,having a quiver hanghig from hisshoulders, hisbody wrapt up in a plad, girt about his loins witha gilded belt, and wearing trowzers reaching fromthe soles of his feet to his waste." A gun andpistol, being of modern date, cou'd make no partof his equipage :and you see he did not make hisentry into Athens riding on a broom-stick, as fabulouslyreported, but inthe native garb of anaboriginal Scot.
