2. Department of Ophthalmology, Great Ormond St Hospital for Children Hospital
3. Dr. R. P Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences
Objective: To educate and discuss the challenges in the pediatric cataract
management.
Summary of Contents: Major challenges associated with pediatric cataract
surgery in growing eyes are selection of optimal surgical technique,
management of aphakia, handling of technically difficult surgery, intraocular
lens (IOL) power calculation and management of postoperative complications.
Refined and perfected surgical techniques, availability of suitable IOL designs
as well as understanding the growth and refractive changes in children have
made IOL implantation safe modality in the management of pediatric cataract.
Issues of concern are the optimal age for IOL implantation, whether IOL
implantation should be as primary or a secondary, what IOL power to choose,
target postoperative refractive status. Latest trends in surgical techniques and
the importance of choosing the optimal means of optical rehabilitation will be
discussed.
Topics:
1) Pediatric cataract and its management: Global Scenario. Dr Ken Nischal
2) Preoperative work up including IOL power calculation in children: Dr
Jaspreet Sukhija
3) Surgical techniques for pediatric cataract surgery, postoperative care and
complication management, Prof. Jagat Ram
4) Optical rehabilitation and management of amblyopia, Dr GS Brar
5.Managing pediatric cataract surgery in complicated situations PHPV etc.,
4. Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Alexandria University
Objective: Role of spectral domain OCT as a valuable tool in assessment and
management of the vitreoretinal interface disorders.
Summary of content: This course will provide a detailed discussion on the role
of spectral domain OCT as an indispensable tool in assessment of the
vitreoretinal interface disorders including macular holes, lamellar macular
holes, epimacular membranes, vitreoretinal traction syndrome, myopic traction
maculopathy and diabetic macular edema. Using plenty of OCT pictures, the
instructors will demonstrate how high resolution spectral domain OCT can
provide a new insights regarding the pathogenesis, staging and inter-relation
between these vitreoretinal disorders. The course instructors, will illustrate
by videos recent surgical innovations and techniques used for management
of these disorders with special emphasis on improving the anatomical and
functional results.
Target Audience: Retina specialist
are a fact of life. Learning how ‹not to get bit› is an effective way to practice
safely and efficiently. This course consists of video presentations describing
challenging cases and unexpected events during retinal surgery. Faculty
shares their experience on how to predict, treat, and prevent unexpected
outcomes during detachment surgery, diabetic vitrectomy surgery, smallgauge
surgery, and complex vitreoretinal surgery. At the conclusion of this
course, attendees will be able to predict, treat, and prevent unexpected events
during vitreoretinal surgery.
