Management of Glaucoma in Difficult Situations: Discussion of
Representative Cases

Objective: To discuss the management options available for the treatment of
refractory glaucomas through the presentation of representative difficult cases.
Summary of Content: Management of intractable glaucomas such as
neovascular glaucoma, glaucoma following vitreo-retinal surgery, glaucoma
following penetrating keratoplasty, malignant glaucoma as well as glaucoma
associated with keratoprostheses remains a challenge to the glaucoma surgeon.
Management of these problems has shifted from the use of cyclodestructive
procedures, to the use of drainage devices which is the current treatment of
choice in most situations. We plan to present 4 representative case scenarios
of the various subtypes of refractory glaucomas and discuss the problems in
diagnosis, surgical treatment and expected complications in each case.
