BRAO - It is never too late for intervention<br />

Purpose: To describe the importance <strong>of</strong> surgical and medical intervention in<br />

Branch Retinal Artery Occlusion. Design: Retrospective, case series<br />

Methods: 7 patients <strong>of</strong> BRAO who were treated in our hospital between<br />

October 2010 and April 2011. All patients underwent anterior chamber<br />

paracentesis and subcutaneous heparin (3500 IU subcutaneuosly) as soon as<br />

they were diagnosed by FFA. Follow up period: 3 months. Outcome measures:<br />

Visual acuity, pupillary reaction, Repeat FFA.<br />

Results: The Mean time <strong>of</strong> presentation from the time <strong>of</strong> initial symptoms was<br />

29 hours and the Mean time <strong>of</strong> intervention was 32 hours. The average Visual<br />

acuity preoperative was 0.028 (decimal visual acuity) as compared to post<br />

operative Visual acuity <strong>of</strong> 0.05 (p
