Enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence<br />

tomography <strong>of</strong> choroidal thickness in Japanese normal eyes<br />

Purpose: To examine choroidal thickness <strong>of</strong> healthy Japanese subjects using<br />

spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and the correlation<br />

with age and refractive error.<br />

Methods: One hundred thirty three healthy volunteers had no ophthalmic or<br />

systematic symptoms. The group <strong>of</strong> 133 subjects consists <strong>of</strong> 76 women and 57<br />

man, with an mean age <strong>of</strong> 48.7 years. Eyes with high myopia (exceeding -6D)<br />

or with retinal/choroidal disease were excluded. The choroidal thickness was<br />

examined using enhanced depth imaging SD-OCT.<br />

Results: Mean choroidal thickness were 258.6±79.9 micrometers under the<br />

fovea. Choroidal thickness showed a negative significant correlation with age<br />

under the fovea (P
