Growth Assessment <strong>of</strong> Choroidal Nevi<br />

Objective/Purpose: Choroidal nevi are common uveal lesions in Caucasian<br />

patients. There is evidence suggesting that melanomas may arise from preexisting<br />

nevi. The aim <strong>of</strong> this study is to examine the growth <strong>of</strong> choroidal nevi<br />

over the years by evaluating the ultrasonographic features <strong>of</strong> these lesions.<br />

Methods: A retrospective observational study <strong>of</strong> patients with choroidal nevi,<br />

followed by fundus photos and diagnostic ultrasound exams for a period <strong>of</strong> 17<br />

years. All patients were examined at McGill University Health Center. All data<br />

including age, gender, and follow up period was recorded. A detailed analysis<br />

<strong>of</strong> all ultrasound exams including the first and the last one was performed.<br />

Results: Choroidal nevi were more common in women in our sample size. The<br />

majority <strong>of</strong> choroidal nevi were stable in size and a small percentage <strong>of</strong> these<br />

lesions were associated with increase in size. The growing choroidal nevi were<br />
