Nodular Episcleritis after LASIK in patient with SLE

Purpose: To report a case of nodular episcleritis after Lasik in patient with
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus(SLE.)
Summary: .28 years old lady known to have systemic lupus Erythematusis(SLE)
quiet on maintenance treatment underwent uneventful Laser In Situ
Keratomileusis(LASIK) and was put on topical Flouromethalone (FML) and
antibiotics. One week later she presented to the emergency room complaining
of tearing, moderate pain and, redness on the lateral part of the left eye
.On examination her vision was 20/20 A nodular episcleritis surrounded by
engorged episcleral blood vessels and subconjunctival hemorrhage was
detected on the lateral aspect of the left eye sclera.treated with topical
diclofenac acid drops(Voltaren) episcleritis , self limited should be one of the
differential diagnosis of post-refractive Surgery red eye

Mono vision LASIK for Presbyopia

AIM- To evaluate the outcome and success of LASIK in Presbyopic patients
Materials and methods- Prospective analysis of 34 eyes of 17 patients over
40 years of age treated with Allegreto wavefront LASIK system. Average
patient age was 53.3 years. Pre Op refraction ranged from - 5.75 to + 2.25
diopters(D). Non dominant eyes underwent Presbyopic LASIK- an aspheric
pupil size dependant LASIK to induce central corneal relative flattening and
peripheral corneal relative steepening. Dominant eyes underwent monofocal
refraction based LASIK. Analysis of the age at the time of surgery, gender,
targeted out come and patient acceptance were studied for a follow up period
ranging from 9 - 18 months. Results-At final follow up, 91.3% of all patients
reported complete spectacle independence. Distant unaided visual acuity was
6/6 in 76.9 % of the hyperopes and 70.7% of the myopes and 6/6 at 80 cm in
85.7% of the hyperopes and 84% of the myopes and 6/6 at 40 cm in 71.4% of
the hyperopes and 65.3% of the myopes. The acceptance was higher in older
patients. Conclusion- Monovision LASIK is a valuable option for presbyopic
patients considering refractive surgery.

One Intacs SK segment for corneal pellucid marginal degeneration.

PURPOSE: To evaluate refractive, visual, and aberrometric changes in
corneas with pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD) implanted with one
intrastromal lower segment.
Methods: Seventeen eyes with corneal PMD were enrolled in this study.
Surgery was indicated in all cases because of reduced best spectaclecorrected
visual acuity (BSCVA) or contact lens intolerance. Corneal Prolate
Intacs system was used. A single Intacs SK segment was then implanted. .
Uncorrected corrected visual acuity (UCVA) and BSCVA, refractive and
corneal aberrometric root mean square (RMS) changes were analyzed during
one year follow-up.
Results: UCVA (P = 0.040), and BSCVA (P = 0.032) improved at 1 year after
