come il lascito di un professore morente al nipote impegni
quest’ultimo in una ricerca attorno al mondo, per svelare un nodo
contorto di paura, follia, culti innominati ed orrori che sarebbe meglio

Actor Andrew Leman and writer-director Sean Branney established the
H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society in 1985, and have subsequently explored
various ways of dramatizing the “unfilmable” work of this science-fiction
author, who died in 1937 at the age of 47.They determined to put one

of his most famous stories, “The Call of Cthulhu”, published in 1926, on
screen “the way it might have been made in the 1920s – when Lovecraft
wrote it – as a silent movie. These films rely completely on action and
visuals and music, all of which appeal directly to the emotions …
Lovecraft’s story features numerous words – not least of which is the
name of the title character – which are very difficult to pronounce
correctly. But by shooting a silent film, none of our actors have to try to
pronounce them, and every member of the audience hears those words
in their head exactly the way they think they should sound. Because a
silent film leaves more to the viewer’s imagination, it can be a very
engaging and powerful and satisfying experience.”
The story of the film (shot digitally on mini-DVD with a Canon XLI camera)
tells how a dying professor’s bequest to his nephew leads him on a globespanning
quest to unravel a twisted knot of fear, madness, nameless cults,
