Ved Havet and Fiskerliv i Norden. It tells the story of the harsh life of a
Nordic fisherman, and a grim tale of how women and children are left
standing by the graves of their drowned husbands and fathers.

Adattamento della pièce del 1852 La signora dalle camelie di Alexandre
Dumas figlio (dal suo romanzo del 1848), il film, che segue la struttura
del testo, è diviso in cinque atti, contrassegnati da cartelli con il titolo.
Atto 1: Armand Duval incontra ad un ballo la cortigiana Marguerite
Gautier. Quando lei si sente improvvisamente male, lui è il solo ad
aiutarla.Atto 2:Armand e Marguerite si sono innamorati e lei respinge
il suo ex amante, il barone Gustave. Atto 3: Armand e Marguerite
vivono felici in un casa in campagna. Mentre Armand è via, arriva suo

padre per dire a Marguerite che la sua dubbia reputazione mette
l’intera famiglia in cattiva luce. Lei si sacrifica e lascia Armand.Atto 4:
Un anno dopo, i due si rincontrano in una casa da gioco. Armand,
ancora risentito perché crede che Marguerite lo abbia lasciato per
mancanza d’amore, le getta del denaro in faccia, come ad una
prostituta. Atto 5: Marguerite sta morendo di tubercolosi in una
soffitta. Arriva Armand e i due si dichiarano il proprio reciproco
amore, dopodiché lei muore.
Un tipico esempio di adattamento di un classico letterario in dieci
minuti; fino al 1910 la Nordisk ne produsse molti. Ogni atto è
costituto da una singola ripresa continua, in cui (nella copia
conservatasi!) sono state inserite molte didascalie descrittive. Non è
del tutto certo, peraltro, se queste siano originali. – CASPER TYBJERG
An adaptation of the 1852 play La dame aux camélias by Alexandre
Dumas fils (from his own 1848 novel), the film follows the structure of the
play and is divided into five acts, marked by title cards. Act 1: Armand
Duval meets the courtesan Marguerite Gautier at a ball. When she
suddenly feels ill, he is the only one to help her. Act 2: Armand and
Marguerite have fallen in love, and she turns away her former lover, Baron
Gustave. Act 3: Armand and Marguerite are living happily at a country
house.While Armand is away, his father arrives, and tells Marguerite that
her questionable reputation has put Armand’s entire family in disrepute.
She sacrifices herself and leaves Armand. Act 4: In a gambling-hall a year
later, the two meet again. Armand is still bitter because he believes that
Marguerite has left him for lack of love. He throws money in her face to
mark her as a whore.Act 5: Marguerite lies dying from tuberculosis in an
attic room. Armand arrives and they declare their love for each other,
whereupon she dies.
A characteristic example of a ten-minute adaptation of a literary classic;
until 1910, Nordisk produced a number of these. Each of the acts has been
shot as a single continuous take, into which (in the surviving print) a large
number of descriptive intertitles have been inserted. It is not completely
