Questo film splendidamente fotografato è ambientato su uno sfondo
indefinibile: i fuorilegge indossano cappelli da cowboy e costumi da
selvaggio West, mentre le autorità sono rappresentate da gendarmi in
uniformi vistose che brandiscono la sciabola. Piuttosto che un western
vero e proprio, questo dramma violento può esser visto come un
esempio di un genere popolare, il film di gangster, ed è notevole per
l’eroina eccezionalmente energica e capace, che deve ripetutamente

A member of a gang of outlaws secretly makes improper advances to the
wife of the robber chieftain.When she rejects him, he betrays the chieftain
to the gendarmes. She guns down the traitor, sneaks into the jail in disguise,
gets the guards drunk, and frees her husband. During the getaway, he is
recaptured, but she frees her wounded husband again from the cart in
which he is being transported. They flee on horseback, but are finally
cornered in a cabin, and both die in a shoot-out with the police.
This beautifully photographed film takes place in an indefinable milieu: the
outlaws wear cowboy hats and Wild-West-like costumes, while the
authorities are represented by sabre-wielding gendarmes in gaudy uniforms.
Rather than a proper Western, this violent drama can be seen as an
example of the popular crime-film genre. It is remarkable for its
exceptionally energetic and capable heroine, who must repeatedly help her

Due cacciatori si muovono nella giungla, osservando la fauna: gli
struzzi, una zebra, un ippopotamo; seguono una pista, con un servitore
di colore come battitore. Si accampano poi per la notte, ma vengono
svegliati da un leone che abbatte un capretto, e poi uccide anche il
cavallo dei cacciatori. Questi sparano al leone, che sta in acqua. Un
cacciatore si mette in posa a fianco del leone morto e fuma una
sigaretta. I cacciatori vedono poi un altro leone, e sparano anche a
quello. I leoni vengono scuoiati, e le pelli sono mostrate alla macchina
da presa. I cacciatori si fumano un’altra sigaretta e ne offrono una
anche al servitore.
La miglior definizione del film è probabilmente quella di realtà messa
in scena. In Danimarca la lavorazione del film fu oggetto di una grande
copertura mediatica (gli animalisti, capeggiati dal ministro della
giustizia, cercarono di impedirne la realizzazione) e gran parte degli
spettatori sapeva che la caccia al leone aveva avuto luogo in realtà
sull’isoletta di Elleore. Con un po’ di abilità, il film tesse insieme

materiali girati in luoghi diversi: i cacciatori nella giungla erano stati
ripresi in una foresta a nord di Copenaghen; gli animali che essi
osservano erano stati filmati allo zoo di Copenaghen (con la macchina
da presa inclinata verso basso per nascondere i recinti), e le scene con

Two hunters move through the jungle.They observe wildlife of various sorts:
ostriches, a zebra, a hippopotamus.With a black servant as their tracker,
they follow a trail. They camp for the night, but are awakened by a lion
bringing down a kid goat.The lion also kills the hunters’ horse.They shoot the
lion, which is sitting out in the water. One hunter strikes a pose beside the
dead lion and smokes a cigarette.The hunters spot another lion and shoot
it. The lions are skinned, and their pelts are displayed to the camera. The
hunters smoke another cigarette and offer one to the black servant as well.
The film is probably best described as a staged actuality. In Denmark, the
making of this film received intense media coverage (animal rights
crusaders, led by the minister of justice, tried to stop it from being made),
and most spectators would have known that the lion hunt actually took
place on the tiny island of Elleore.With some skill, the film weaves together
material shot in several different locations: the hunters in the jungle were
shot in a wood north of Copenhagen; the animals they observe were filmed
at the Copenhagen Zoo (with the camera tilted downwards to hide the
fences), and the lion scenes on Elleore. – CASPER TYBJERG

Un vagabondo affamato tenta di derubare uno strillone, ma cambia
idea. Pensa al suicidio, ma lo strillone gli dà dei soldi per comprarsi da
mangiare. Entrambi dormono per strada. Il vagabondo inizia a fare
lavoretti volanti, poi viene assunto come fattorino. Incontra una
lavandaia. Il vagabondo ed il ragazzo affittano un appartamento. Il
vagabondo salva la vita alla figlioletta di un riccone, caduta dalla finestra.
Viene ricompensato e può così metter su casa con la lavandaia.
Marguerite Engberg scrive del film: “In termini sia di forma che di
contenuto, è inferiore ai film presentati dalle case di produzione
straniere, così si capisce perché Ole Olsen volesse un nuovo direttore
artistico.” Viggo Larsen aveva diretto quasi tutti i film di fiction
realizzati dalla Nordisk fino a questo punto, ma di lì a poco se ne andò
per darsi ad una fortunata carriera di attore e regista in Germania.
