There is thus an increase <strong>of</strong> about 10%compared with the previous<br />

decade. In RRS the following prediction was made (p. xiv): ‘It may be<br />

concluded that scholarly output on <strong>Philo</strong> <strong>and</strong> related subjects is still on<br />

theincrease,butthatitshowssigns<strong>of</strong>stabilizingatanaverage<strong>of</strong>about<br />

100 items a year.’ This prediction has proved fairly accurate, except for the<br />

exceptionally fertile years <strong>of</strong> 1998, 2003 <strong>and</strong> 2004, the numbers <strong>of</strong> which<br />

were partly fuelled by the publication <strong>of</strong> some volumes <strong>of</strong> collected essays<br />

(see 9865, 20305, 20326, 20429, 20480). If a prediction may be made<br />

this time, it might be that the inexorable rise <strong>of</strong> electronic publishing<br />

will make the task <strong>of</strong> the bibliographer much more difficult, <strong>and</strong> that the<br />

number <strong>of</strong> printed publications may well start to decrease.
