arable but with low rainfall, low relief and mainly sandy soils; the Teme catchment is<br />

dominated by clay loam and silty soils with a high proportion of gr<strong>as</strong>sland farming;<br />

whilst the B<strong>as</strong>senthwaite catchment is almost wholly in gr<strong>as</strong>s with shallow clay loam<br />

soils on steep slopes and in a high rainfall area.<br />
