<strong>Clubs</strong> Secure - Greyhound Rac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>NSW</strong>’s standardised f<strong>in</strong>ancial report<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and performance benchmark<strong>in</strong>g program<br />

Greyhound Rac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>NSW</strong> (GR<strong>NSW</strong>) is <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dependent body charged with represent<strong>in</strong>g, fund<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and controll<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> commercial operations <strong>of</strong> greyhound rac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>NSW</strong>. GR<strong>NSW</strong> uses <strong>Clubs</strong><br />

Secure – a f<strong>in</strong>ancial performance benchmark<strong>in</strong>g system – to monitor <strong>the</strong> operational and<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancial performance <strong>of</strong> 39 greyhound rac<strong>in</strong>g clubs <strong>in</strong> <strong>NSW</strong>. These clubs vary <strong>in</strong> size from small<br />

country clubs with annual revenue <strong>of</strong> less than $100,000 to large metropolitan clubs with<br />

annual revenue <strong>in</strong> excess <strong>of</strong> $3.5 million.<br />

All greyhound rac<strong>in</strong>g clubs <strong>in</strong> <strong>NSW</strong> are required to keep a standardised set <strong>of</strong> management<br />

accounts prescribed by GR<strong>NSW</strong>. Us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation from <strong>the</strong>se accounts, clubs are required to<br />

enter <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>in</strong>to Club Secure – an onl<strong>in</strong>e report<strong>in</strong>g tool – that calculates a set <strong>of</strong><br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g and f<strong>in</strong>ancial measures for each club. These <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />

five f<strong>in</strong>ancial measures (for example, work<strong>in</strong>g capital ratio, solvency ratio, <strong>in</strong>terest cover<br />

ratio)<br />

five operational measures specific to <strong>the</strong> greyhound rac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry (for example, prize<br />

money ratio, race day <strong>in</strong>come to race day expenses).<br />

Each club receives an immediate report on how <strong>the</strong>y are perform<strong>in</strong>g relative to <strong>in</strong>dustry<br />

benchmarks. These benchmarks vary based on club type (TAB club/non-TAB club) and location<br />

(metropolitan/country).<br />

<strong>Clubs</strong> that have performed below <strong>the</strong> benchmark for three consecutive periods are formally<br />

notified by GR<strong>NSW</strong> and an explanation sought. <strong>Clubs</strong> may be eligible for fur<strong>the</strong>r assistance<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a more detailed <strong>in</strong>vestigation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir performance by GR<strong>NSW</strong>.<br />

TAB clubs are required to enter data monthly while non-TAB clubs are required to enter data<br />

quarterly. Results are compared to audited f<strong>in</strong>ancial statement at <strong>the</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> each<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancial year.<br />

GR<strong>NSW</strong> also assists clubs by:<br />

provid<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and advice on how to enter f<strong>in</strong>ancial data and <strong>in</strong>terpret results<br />

provid<strong>in</strong>g funds, where appropriate, to obta<strong>in</strong> necessary account<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>of</strong>tware and obta<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> services <strong>of</strong> a suitably qualified bookkeeper.<br />
