Who lives in <strong>Tulsa</strong>? Successful economic development<br />
planning requires a thorough understanding of area<br />
demographics. In this section, we discuss relevant<br />
demographic trends from 1990 through 2008, and<br />
projections for 2030.<br />
However, growth continues at a healthy pace for the<br />
region as a whole. The seven-county <strong>Tulsa</strong> Metropolitan<br />
Statistical Area (MSA) grew from 859,532 people in<br />
2000 to 916,079 in 2008, a gain of 56,547 residents<br />
(7%). Since 1970, the seven counties that make up the<br />
MSA have grown by 60%, whereas the City of <strong>Tulsa</strong><br />
has grown by 16%.<br />
